Proclamation celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Millvale Volunteer Fire Department on May 13, 2006 and commending the department for its courage and dedication to fire safety and rescue.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Millvale Volunteer Fire Department services the Borough of Millvale, Allegheny County, a community of approximately 4,000 residents, providing citizens with reliable Fire, Rescue and QRS Services.  Established in 1906, the Millvale Volunteer Fire Department, Station 191, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on May 13, 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, the Millvale VFD has remained in the same station since its inception at 501 Lincoln Avenue, Millvale, PA 15209.  The company is home to four-firefighting vehicles, a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban for Squad, a 1980 Mack Pumper fire truck and a 1991 Federal Protector Pumper truck, and an American La France 100 foot aerial ladder truck that was completely refurbished in 1987.  All firefighters are trained in-house and must attend the fundamentals of fire fighting at the Allegheny County Fire Academy located in North Park; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2005, the Millvale VFD answered 259 calls for service and they continue to experience an increase in the number of calls.  The department handles mutual aid calls for service as well, working in conjunction with the Volunteer Fire Department's of Reserve Township, Shaler Township, Ross Township, Borough of Sharpsburg, Borough of Aspinwall, and Borough of Etna; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Millvale VFD plans to move their station to a new location and state-of-the-art facility sometime this year which will greatly enhance their ability to serve the community;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby congratulates the Millvale VFD upon the occasion of their 100th Anniversary Celebration and commends the department for its courage and dedication to safety and rescue.  This Council recognizes their selfless efforts and heroic deeds, which have earned the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County.
