Proclamation recognizing the Wounded Warrior Project and their contribution towards helping injured service members recover and transition into civilian life.

WHEREAS, the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a non-profit organization aimed at assisting the men and women of the United States armed forces who have been severely injured during the war on terrorism; they provide programs and services designed to ease the burdens of the wounded and their families, aid in the recovery process, and smooth their transition back to civilian life; and
WHEREAS, the group sends backpacks of essential personal care items, including, comfortable clothes, toiletries, and calling cards, to severely wounded service members arriving at military trauma centers; and
WHEREAS, through recent efforts, the “Wounded Warrior” bill became law, offering severely injured service members a one-time insurance benefit of up to $100,000 to help their families during the days immediately following their injury; and
WHEREAS, Wounded Warrior spokesman Sergeant Jeremy Feldbusch, from Blairsville, Pennsylvania, was seriously injured in Iraq and medically retired as an Army Ranger. He worked with Mr. Richard Hankin for more than a year to produce a film, called Home Front, which will premiere on November 8th, 2006 at the Harris Theatre in Pittsburgh, and the film will be featured on Showtime; and
WHEREAS, from the beaches of Normandy and the snows of Korea to the mountains of Afghanistan and the deserts of Iraq, our courageous veterans have sacrificed so that Americans and others could live in freedom;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Chief Executive
Dan Onorato and Allegheny County Council do hereby recognize the Wounded Warrior Project for empowering our injured service members to return to a productive life that transcends the limits of disability. Our wounded veterans are a testament to the strength of the human spirit, serving as an inspiration to us all.
