Body

WHEREAS, the John J. Kane Regional Centers of Allegheny County, located in Glen Hazel, Scott Township, Ross Township and McKeesport, offer residential skilled nursing care and rehabilitation for short-term and long-term needs, providing quality care and services to patients, while granting family members peace of mind; and

 

WHEREAS, Quality Insights of Pennsylvania (QIP) is the Commonwealth's quality improvement organization charged with helping long-term care providers improve resident care and satisfaction.  In 2004, the Kane Centers and other providers throughout Western Pennsylvania participated in educational sessions sponsored by QIP, and in 2005, QIP asked those participating agencies to create posters to demonstrate pain evaluation and management techniques; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kane McKeesport Pain Management team won first place for their creative design of a pain management poster, based on the children's game “Chutes and Ladders”.  These materials demonstrated the assessment phase of pain management and the individualized pain relief techniques used to ease residents from persistent pain and improve their overall quality of life.  The McKeesport Center utilizes an interdisciplinary method, which includes cooperation from the professional nursing staff, family, friends and visitors; and

 

WHEREAS, the McKeesport Center's innovative pain-management treatment has brought national and international attention, with the Western Australian Center for Cancer and Palliative Care, Edith Cowan University requesting the “Pain Game” poster and related information for potential application; and

 

WHEREAS, the McKeesport Center has experienced participation in the global network and their award-winning poster may be a model for raising awareness of pain-management treatment in Australia and abroad;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend and congratulate the Kane Regional Center McKeesport Team upon receipt of the Quality Insights of Pennsylvania Pain-Management Award.  The Kane McKeesport Center has made an impact on the world and on this community, serving as an inspiration to us all.
