Proclamation recognizing the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action and honoring ten local African American nurses who have earned their Doctorate in Nursing.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action, a chapter of National Black Nurses Association, Inc. are guided by the principle that African-American nurses have the understanding, the knowledge, interest, concern, and expertise to make a significant difference in the health care status of African-American communities; and

                     

                     WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action was established to provide the African-American community with health information to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage participation in prevention and screening programs; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action participates in community outreach activities for the purpose of providing health education, promoting disease prevention, health and empowerment; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action this year will be honoring ten nurses who have earned their doctoral degrees including, Dr. Betty Braxter, Dr. Willa Doswell, Dr. Nadine Frye, Dr. Dorothy Hawthorne, Dr. Janice Holmes, Dr. Beryl Jackson, Dr, Mildred Jones, Dr. Luevonue M. Lincoln, Dr. Rachel Poole and Dr. Shirley Smith;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council recognizes and commends the 2006 Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action Honorees.  County Council salutes the accomplishments of each honoree and expresses its appreciation to them for their past and ongoing contributions to the community, and for their efforts to improve the overall quality of life in this region.

 

 

 

WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action (PBNIA) is the local chapter of the National Black Nurse Association (NBNA).  They are guided by the principle that African-American nurses have the understanding, the knowledge, interest, concern, and expertise to make a significant difference in the health care status of African-American communities; and

                     

                     WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action provides the African-American community with health information to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage participation in prevention and screening programs, and they also participate in community outreach activities for the purpose of providing health education, promoting disease prevention, health and empowerment; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action works collaboratively with other organizations and churches to help bridge the gap in health disparities; and

 

                     WHEREAS, on Saturday, June 17, 2006 the Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action will host its Annual Scholarship Luncheon with a theme of “Education Plus Experience Equals Empowerment” where they will honor ten local African-American nurses who have earned their Doctoral degrees;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council thanks Pittsburgh Black Nurses in Action and commends the organization for recognizing the outstanding caregivers, clinicians, educators, administrators and researchers that are committed to improving health in the African-American community.  County Council hereby salutes the accomplishments of each honoree and expresses its appreciation to them for their efforts to improve the overall quality of life in this region.
