Proclamations honoring Mayor Betty Esper of Borough of Homestead, Mayor Raymond Bodnar of Borough of Munhall and Mayor John Dindak of Borough of West Homestead for their community leadership and successful community development.

WHEREAS, experienced leaders have heeded the call of service in Allegheny County by guiding our communities to thriving existences; and
WHEREAS, since 1990, Betty Esper has served as the only female mayor in the history of the Borough of Homestead; and
WHEREAS, she worked with United States Steel for 36 years and was employed at the Homestead Works; when the plant shutdown in 1987, she had already been serving on council for seven years, and she used her experiences to help her win the position in the mayor's office; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Esper has assisted Homestead's conversion from a town dependent upon a declining industry to a town thriving on the success of a carefully planned retail development at the Waterfront; and
WHEREAS, throughout her time in office, Mayor Esper has volunteered on numerous government boards to focus on the incessant improvement of Homestead; her resolve has helped the borough accomplish seemingly unreachable goals and has ensured citizens that the triumphs of a viable community will continue into the future;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Borough of Homestead Mayor Betty Esper for her many years of community service and dedication to building the economy of the borough. She continues to set a standard of excellence for leaders in our County, and she serves as an inspiration to the members of this Council.
WHEREAS, experienced leaders have heeded the call of service in Allegheny County by guiding our communities to thriving existences; and
WHEREAS, since 1973, John J. Dindak has served as mayor of the Borough of West Homestead, a position he rightfully deserved after serving as a member and as the president of the borough's council; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Dindak served in the Navy for five years prior to joining West Homestead, and while he has served as mayor for 36 years, he has expanded his dedication as a public servant by chairing the Democratic Committee for the past 23 years; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Dindak is a key factor in the development of the Waterfront, and he is also committed to continuously improving other aspects of West Homestead, including building a new ramp off the Homestead Hi-Level Bridge, helping secure a new municipal building and constructing monuments to honor citizens who serve our country; and
WHEREAS, throughout his time in office, Mayor Dindak has helped initiate the transformation of West Homestead from a town struggling from the departure of the steel industry to a community displaying great promise for the future;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Borough of West Homestead Mayor John J. Dindak for his many years of community service and dedication to building the economy of the borough. He continues to set a standard of excellence for leaders in our County, and he serves as an inspiration to the members of this Council.

WHEREAS, since 1987, Raymond G. Bodnar has served as mayor of the Borough of Munhall, a position he won after serving as a member of council and as the president of council; and
WHEREAS, with over 40 years of public service experience, Mayor Bodnar's dedication to his community is evident in his accomplishments in office, including completing a main street revitalization, creating crime prevention programs, modernizing the police department's systems, and securing grants and funding for additional renewal projects in Munhall; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Bodnar is an instrumental factor in the development of the Waterfront, working with neighboring communities to build an economic complex that flourishes continuously; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Bodnar has instilled hope and resilience into the Munhall people, who tirelessly support the Mayor's commitment to creating a viable future for the area;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Borough of Munhall Mayor Raymond G. Bodnar for his many years of community service and dedication to building the economy of the borough. He continues to set a standard of excellence for leaders in our County, and he serves as an inspiration to the members of this Council.
