Body

Allegheny County Council is honored to present this Certificate of Recognition to Mr. Joel Platt for being inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western Pennsylvania. Mr. Platt has compiled in his Sports Immortals Museum in Boca Raton, Florida one of the most impressive sports memorabilia collections in the world. The collection of over one million mementos has garnered the recognition of the Smithsonian Institute, which called the museum “absolutely the greatest collection in all of sports.” Mr. Platt's lifelong dedication to sport and his ambitious spirit are to be commended. Furthermore, we honor his contribution to Allegheny County's long legacy of historic sports figures and hope he continues to add to his great museum.

Allegheny County Council is honored to present this Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Linda Gottlieb Gordon for being inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western Pennsylvania. Linda's exemplary tennis career was filled with championships and awards. She was the Pittsburgh High School women's singles champion in 1979 and 1980, and, as a scholarship athlete at Syracuse University, Linda won a number of state and conference doubles and singles championships. While attending Syracuse, Linda compiled 131 collegiate wins and, with her partner Diane Sivavec, earned a .830 doubles winning percentage - the best percentage in school history. Linda's competitive spirit and will to achieve are to be commended, and we honor her contribution to Allegheny County's long legacy of historic sports figures.

Allegheny County Council is honored to present this Certificate of Recognition to Ms. Randi Lichenstein for being inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame of Western Pennsylvania. Randi broke historic ground in her tennis career at Gateway High School. Early in the 1970s, Gateway did not have a girls' team, and Randi fought all the way to court to play on the boys' team and for equal women's rights in high school sports. Eventually, the court ruled in her favor, but by that time a girls' team was established. Then, Randi won a WPIAL singles championship in 1976: her senior year. She went on to play at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was the team's Most Valuable Player two years in a row. Historically at Pitt, Randi ranks 16th in career doubles wins, third in singles winning percentage for a season (.833), and second in career singles winning percentage (.808).  Linda's competitive spirit and will to achieve are to be commended, and we honor her contribution to Allegheny County's long legacy of historic sports figures.
