Proclamation recognizing Tom Donatelli upon his retirement from his position as the Director of the Allegheny County Public Works Department.
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas E. Donatelli, P.E. has dedicated 30 years of his life to serving the public, with 10 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and more than 20 years with Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Donatelli has served in his current position as the Director of the Allegheny County Department of Public Works since October 1997, a job that has required him to manage a “mega” department comprised of Engineering and Construction, Fleet Management, and Maintenance Operations, which includes the oversight of County roads, bridges, buildings and parks; and
WHEREAS, by participating in the consolidation efforts of the departments, Mr. Donatelli and his colleagues were able to improve public services while reducing the operating budget by 47%; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his 30 years of public service, Mr. Donatelli also spent 9 years in the private sector with several well-respected engineering firms including GAI Construction Monitoring Services, Green International and Kozel Engineering; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Donatelli has been the recipient of multiple awards, including the American Society of Civil Engineers' Engineer of the Year-1999 and Pennsylvania Public Works Administrator of the Year- 2000; and
WHEREAS, he has also shared his expertise in the field of civil engineering through his position as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and has served in numerous leadership roles with the Construction Legislative Council, the American Society of Highway Engineers, the American Public Works Association and the American Arbitration Association;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council wishes to thank Mr. Thomas E. Donatelli for his years of service to the people of Allegheny County. We congratulate you upon the momentous occasion of your retirement and wish you continued success in your future endeavors.
