Proclamation recognizing and commending Ms. Trudy Avery for her unparalleled dedication and commitment serving Allegheny County Government and our community as a whole and wishing her all the best on her well-deserved retirement.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as Trudy Avery who has placed her stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both a public servant and strong leader; and

 

WHEREAS, born in Gary, Indiana and nicknamed “Baby Boo,” Trudy and her two sisters, Yvonne and Althea, attended Gary Roosevelt, from which Trudy graduated third in her class; and

 

WHEREAS, following high school, Trudy attended Indiana University at Bloomington, receiving a BS in Education, where she was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority before pursuing Master Degree studies at California State University at Northridge, UCLA, and Guam, and earning her Juris Doctorate in Law; and

 

WHEREAS, over the years, Trudy has held positions as a high school teacher, social worker, secondary school teacher, copy writer, probation officer, publications before beginning her law career with positions in the US Steel Corporation's Law Department and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office; Trudy has also taught at the County Police Academy as an Instructor in Evidence and as an Adjunct Faculty member at Point Park in Criminal Justice; and

 

WHEREAS, a self-proclaimed pack rat, Trudy enjoys antiques and shopping and is a news junkie and an excellent swimmer, each little known facts; however, she is well known for her positive outlook on life, always smiling through adversity; she practices what she preaches by exhibiting a philosophy of doing “the right thing at the right time;” and

 

WHEREAS, upon this, her well-earned retirement, Trudy will be free to spend more time with her husband, Jack, son Brian, and grand-children, Brooke and Ashley II, as she pursues her secret desire to sing;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends Ms. Trudy Avery for her unparalleled dedication and commitment serving Allegheny County Government and our community as a whole.  We wish her all the best on her well-deserved retirement and join her family and friends in celebrating this momentous occasion with her.
