A Resolution of the Council of the County of Allegheny, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, naming and designating the Family Activity Center at the Allegheny County Jail in honor of the late City of Pittsburgh Police Commander Gwendolyn Elliott

Whereas, the late Commander Gwendolyn Elliott was a trailblazing member of the City of Pittsburgh Police Department; and
Whereas, the late Commander Elliott worked tirelessly during her illustrious career and in the years following her retirement from the City of Pittsburgh Police Department on programs, initiatives and activities within the community designed to promote, protect and defend children; and
Whereas, the Allegheny County Jail has undertaken a number of initiatives and programs to promote the interests of children of incarcerated parents, including but not limited to, the establishment of a family activity center within the confines of the County Jail; and
Whereas, the Chief Executive and Council of Allegheny County believe that an appropriate and fitting way to honor the work and legacy of the late Commander Elliott would be to name the family activity center at the Allegheny County Jail in her memory.
The Council of the County of Allegheny hereby resolves as follows:
Section 1. Incorporation of Preamble.
The provisions set forth in the preamble to this Resolution are incorporated by reference in their entity herein.
Section 2. Naming of the Family Activity Center at the Allegheny County Jail.
The Family Activity Center at the Allegheny County Jail is hereby designated and named as “The Gwendolyn June Campbell Elliott Family Activity Center.”
Section 3. Authorization to Act to Execute Purposes of this Resolution.
The appropriate officers and officials of the County are hereby authorized to take any and all actions necessary and appropriate to carry out the purposes and intent of this Resolution.
Section 4. Severability. If any provision of this Resolution shall be determined to be unlawful, invalid, void or unenforceable, then that provision shall be considered severable from the remaining provisions of this Resolution which shall be in full force and effect.
Section 5. Repealer. Any resolution or ordinance or part thereof conflicting with the provisions of this Resolution is hereby repealed so far as the same affects this Resolution.
