Proclamation congratulating The Honorable Debra Todd for receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence from Amen Corner during the group's 55th Annual Judicial Reception.

WHEREAS, the Honorable Debra Todd dutifully and honorably served as a Judge on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania from 2000 through 2007, was elected to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in November 2007, and commenced service on the Court in January 2008; Prior to serving on the Court, Justice Todd was an in-house litigation attorney for U.S. Steel from 1982 to 1987, and she maintained a trial practice in the City of Pittsburgh from 1987 to 1999 with an emphasis in complex civil litigation; and
 
WHEREAS, Justice Todd is a 1979 Honors graduate of Chatham College and a 1982 Law Review graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  In 2004, she was awarded the LL.M. Degree in the Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law; and
 
      WHEREAS, Justice Todd is an elected member of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County and the American Law Institute and an alumna and former board member of the Leadership Pittsburgh program; she is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations, and is a fellow of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Foundations; she is a member of the American Judicature Society, the National Association of Women Judges, the International Association of Women Judges, and the Women's Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, Justice Todd is a board member of the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Chair of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's Elder Law Task Force, PA Supreme Court's Liaison Justice to the Advisory Council on Elder Justice in the Courts, the Interbranch Commission for Gender Racial and Ethnic Fairness and to the Veteran's Courts, former board member and President of Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, Pittsburgh CLO Gene Kelly Awards volunteer judge, and coach for the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School Mock Trial Team; and
 
      WHEREAS, Justice Todd is the recipient of many awards and honors including an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service by Chatham University (2008), the Cornerstone Award from Chatham University (2009), the ACBA's Judge Philip Werner Amram Award (2010), Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Pittsburgh Law Alumni Association (2012), Tribute to Women in Leadership Award in Business & Professional Services from the Greater Pittsburgh YWCA (2013), and the Marjorie Matson Woman of the Year Award from the Pitt Law Women's Association (2013);
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby commend the Honorable Debra Todd for receiving the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence from Amen Corner during the group's 55th Annual Judicial Reception.
