Proclamation honoring Lt. Col. Al Teeney for being recognized at the Brentwood VFW Post 1810's 47th Annual Person of the Year Dinner Banquet.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is fortunate to have individuals such as Lieutenant Colonel Al Teeney, who risk their lives to protect United States citizens in the name of freedom; and
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Teeney serves as the Chief of Air & Space Operations, Regional Issues Division, Western Hemisphere & Europe, Headquarters of the United States Air Force at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Teeney is the principal advisor to the Director of Operational Plans and Joint Matters on aerospace interests, a job that requires him to coordinate and supervise critical operational plans and sensitive political-military issues for Combatant Commanders; and
WHEREAS, a 1988 University of Pittsburgh graduate, Lt. Col. Teeney served with the United States Air Force in the Gulf War and also flew 35 combat missions in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was credited with the destruction of 36 Iraqi military targets; and
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Teeney has also utilized his fluency in the Spanish language and his extensive knowledge as an expert on Latin America to serve in numerous Counter-Drug Operations in Venezuela and Colombia, South America; and
WHEREAS, as a testament to his bravery, Lt. Col. Teeney has been honored with multiple awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Aerial Achievement Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, among many others;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and congratulates United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Al Teeney, recipient of the Brentwood V.F.W. Post 1810's 2008 “Person of the Year” award. We congratulate Lt. Col. Teeney and thank him for his outstanding contributions to our country. His efforts serve as an inspiration to this Council and to the citizens of Allegheny County.
