SUMMARY EXPLAINATION FOR PROPOSED RESOLUTION

TO ACCEPT OWNERSHIP OF CSX CORRIDOR BETWEEN GLENSHAW AND BAKERSTOWN

As explained in the Resolution, CSX Transportation, Inc. filed a Notice of Exemption, Discontinuance of Service with the federal Surface Transportation Board for its 11.2 mile railroad between Glenshaw and Bakerstown.  The line traverses, Shaler, Hampton and Richland Townships.  We wish to be prepared if CSX files for abandonment in order to acquire the corridor and develop a rail-trail.  The County will extend its partnership with the Montour Trail Council, which agreed to sponsor the project and file for rail-banking.
