Proclamation recognizing Emily Carter, a sophomore at Bethel Park High School for her award-winning track and field skills.

WHEREAS, Emily Carter, a sophomore at Bethel Park High School, has an extensive and impressive high school track and field career, thus far; and
WHEREAS, on May 16, 2019 at Slippery Rock University during the WPIAL Class AAA track and field championships, Emily captured gold in the 1,600 and 3,200 races; and
WHEREAS, Emily went on to the PIAA track and field championships that were held at Shippensburg University on May 24-25, 2019. Emily finished in 10 minutes, 16.02 seconds, which was a personal record and a new PIAA record; and
WHEREAS, Emily’s commitment to teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline has resulted in her becoming not only successful in track and field, but in her service to her school and community; and
WHEREAS, for nine years, Emily has been a dedicated Girl Scout. During that time, she has earned the Presidential Gold Service Award for her community service with Allegheny County Parks, Allegheny County Parks Foundation and the Municipality of Bethel Park. She also earned both the Bronze and Silver awards with the Girls Scouts and is currently working on achieving the Gold award, the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, as a resident of Bethel Park, Emily is passionate about maintaining and preserving the 2,013 acres park located in part of her municipality, known as South Park. She assisted the County Parks in planting daffodils on daffodil hill in South Park for four years; over 5000 tulip bulbs are located on daffodil hill. Also, to earn her Silver Award with Girl Scouts, Emily helped refurbish the Girl Scout Cabin at South Park, in which she renovated the fire pit, built a firewood box, and constructed a flower bed; and
WHEREAS, Emily’s impressive and extensive dedication to her community, the Municipality of Bethel Park, is unparalleled. For four years, she has maintained one of Mayor Jacks Allen's Trolley Beautification Projects, a project that requires her to maintain a flower box along the trolley tracks; and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Veterans Memorial Day Parade Committee, Emily helped create a system that locates and tags the military banners around the community so families can easily locate their loved one’s banner. Also, to assist with Memorial Parade events, she helped re-mark the names of veterans on pavers, weeded flower beds, and planted daffodils;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Council Member Sue Means, do hereby recognize Emily Carter for her award-winning track and field skills, which resulted in a new PIAA record. This council also commends her for her for dedicating time, leadership, creativity and effort to making her community better;
