Proclamation honoring the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awardees presented by Coro Pittsburgh.

          WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; individuals such as Mr. Dean Williams who has placed his stamp of character and hard work throughout the community, as both a public servant and strong leader; and
      
       WHEREAS, since 2009, Coro Pittsburgh has presented the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Awards to recognize individuals and organizations in our region that exemplify values-based leadership; and
 
      WHEREAS, on January 24, 2014 at the New Hazlett Theatre on Pittsburgh's North Side, Coro Pittsburgh will honor Dean Williams with the Distinguished Individual Leadership Award which goes to an individual who practices value-based leadership in the service of a more inclusive democracy; and
 
      WHEREAS, Mr. Williams, director of the Formerly Convicted Citizens Project, has demonstrated his commitment to helping individuals that were once incarcerated, and their families, by working to reduce barriers to employment, housing, voting, and full citizenship;
 
      WHEREAS, Mr. Williams has worked tirelessly to build a more inclusive Pittsburgh; through his "Ban the Box" initiative, which eliminates the "Have you ever been convicted?" question from job applications, he has been successful in changing Pittsburgh's employment forms;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Mr. Dean Williams for earning the Distinguished Individual Leadership Award from Coro Pittsburgh, and we thank him for his selfless service and leadership.

       WHEREAS, since 2009, Coro Pittsburgh has presented the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Awards to recognize individuals and organizations in our region that exemplify values-based leadership; and
 
      WHEREAS, on January 24, 2014 at the New Hazlett Theatre on Pittsburgh's North Side, Coro Pittsburgh will honor Tom Baker with the Distinguished Coro Alumni Leadership Award which goes to an individual who practices value-based leadership in the service of a more inclusive democracy; and
 
      WHEREAS, Mr. Baker, president of Baker Leadership and chief community affairs officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh, is the founder and chief program officer of Get Involved!  Inc., which provides leadership and development programs empowering young professionals to become civically engaged; and
 
      WHEREAS, because of his leadership, confidence and community presence, Tom Baker was selected by the members of Allegheny County Council District 1 to serve as their representative in 2014;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate The Honorable Tom Baker for earning the Distinguished Coro Alumni Leadership Award from Coro Pittsburgh, and we thank him for his selfless service and leadership.
 
 
 
           WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhood and the community as a whole; organizations such as Assemble: A Community Space for Arts + Technology, who has placed its stamp of character and inspiration throughout the community; and
      
       WHEREAS, since 2009, Coro Pittsburgh has presented the Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Awards to recognize individuals and organizations in our region that exemplify values-based leadership; and
 
      WHEREAS, on January 24, 2014 at the New Hazlett Theatre on Pittsburgh's North Side, Coro Pittsburgh will honor Assemble with the Distinguished Organizational Leadership Award which goes to an organization that practices value-based leadership in the service of a more inclusive democracy; and
 
      WHEREAS, led by founder Nina Marie Barbuto, Assemble, an open physical space in the urban neighborhood of Garfield, unites artists, technologists, and makers by providing a platform for experiential learning, opening creative processes, and building confidence through making;  
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Assemble: A Community Space for Arts + Technology for earning the Distinguished Organizational Leadership Award from Coro Pittsburgh, and we thank Ms. Barbuto and the organization for its selfless service and leadership.
