Proclamation congratulating the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church upon the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

Body...

WHEREAS, in 1914, the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church was established in Russellton, Pennsylvania to better serve and support the spiritual needs of the region's population. The Church construction was completed in 1916, and it received its first resident pastor, Pastor Ladislaus Sliwinski; and

WHEREAS, as the Church grew in both size and membership, it became a true keystone of the community, with a mission to provide a warm, inviting and welcoming environment where the values and teaching of Catholic faith are celebrated and nurtured. To further this mission, the Church opened a Parish School in 1964, that was in operation for almost 45 years; and

WHEREAS, in 2006, after 90 years of serving the community, the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church was unfortunately destroyed by fire, however, the parish members banded together, creating a worship space in the Parish School. In 2008, when the Parish School closed due to dwindling enrollment, it was renovated and became the permanent structure for the Church; and

WHEREAS, Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church offers many resources to the community including a youth group, service and social ministries, community days, as well as various charitable campaigns; and

WHEREAS, this year, Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church will celebrate its centennial anniversary. For 100 years, the Church has stood as a pillar of the local community, providing spiritual guidance and good works to the surrounding neighborhoods. On May 18, 2014, the Church will celebrate its history with a Mass led by Most Rev. William J. Winter and  a luncheon reception at the Hampton Banquet Hall;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, does hereby  congratulate the Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church upon the occasion of its 100th anniversary. We wish the Church and its congregation continued blessings and express the pride Allegheny County takes in the Church's contributions and services to all citizens of Allegheny County.
