WHEREAS, begun in 1962, the founders of the Long Run Children's Learning Center recognized the need to provide a place where services, as well as care, love, and understanding, are available for special needs children, a philosophy that continues in the Center's operations today; and
WHEREAS, the faculty and staff of the Long Run Children's Learning Center are dedicated to inclusive preschool service that recognizes the uniqueness of each child, with or without special needs, providing an opportunity for he or she to grow and learn together; and
WHEREAS, such personal interaction creates an environment where the self-esteem and independence of each child is fostered so that child develops to his or her full potential through developmentally-appropriate, play-based curriculum that encourages children to be actively involved in the learning process; and
WHEREAS, the Long Run Children's Learning Center is licensed by the PA Departments of Education and Public Welfare and accredited by The National Academy of Early Childhood Programs; it is an affordable, high-quality preschool option for all children regardless of their social, racial, or ethnic background; and
WHEREAS, Long Run Children's Learning Center honors its parents as the primary people in a child's development, providing services of a family worker, referrals to community resources, assistance with individual education program planning, and regular parent support meetings; and
WHEREAS, the coordination of numerous aspects of service to children and families alike results in an exceptional reputation for providing an education that promotes social and problem-solving skills, perceptual-motor, speech and language development, and an understanding by each child of his or her environment and self;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and commends Long Run Children's Learning Center upon its continued commitment to the education of children, with and without special needs, through its dedicated, experienced, and specially-trained staff who provide care, love, and understanding in measures to their wards.
