Proclamation honoring the life and memory of Mr. Dominic P. Serapiglia for his long-time public service as Mayor of the City of Clairton.

 

Body

WHEREAS, The Honorable Dominic Paul Serapiglia was in his fourth term, serving as Mayor of the City of Clairton over a period of 13 years, before passing away at the age of 70 on August 12, 2006; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Mr. Serapiglia was the Democratic Party chairman in Clairton and served as a legislative aide to state Senator Sean Logan.  Prior to his election as mayor, he served 10 years as a Council Member for the City of Clairton and as an elected constable; and

 

                     WHEREAS, his administration focused on revitalizing Clairton, declared a distressed community by the state, by attracting businesses while putting vacant properties back into use and onto the tax rolls.  He is well-known for leading the City of Clairton on the path to economic recovery and growth; and 

 

                     WHEREAS, among his other political and civic roles, he served four terms as president-elect of the Allegheny County Democratic Mayors Association and was a former board member of the Allegheny County Housing Authority.  He was co-chairman of the West to West Coalition (COG), a member of American Legion Post 75, the Clairton Lions Club, the Clairton Volunteer Fire Department, the Sons of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the F&AM Wilson Lodge, the Wilson American Citizens Club (WAC), and the Wilson Civic Association; and

 

                     WHEREAS, he retired from the Allegheny County Maintenance Department, for which he had worked 30 years as a Teamster truck driver.  He was also retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission Maintenance Department as a Teamster truck driver; and                     

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Serapiglia served his country with the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran;

                       

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby recognize Mr. Dominic P. Serapiglia for his positive impact on the City of Clairton and its citizens.  Mr. Serapiglia's commitment to the community serves as inspirations to us all and, while we cannot hope to replace him, we can honor his memory by commending and emulating the spirit of his dedication.
