Proclamation honoring District Court Chief Judge Donetta W. Ambrose, who was recently presented with The Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership & Excellence by the Amen Corner.

WHEREAS, on April 24, 2008, the Amen Corner will hold its 48th Annual Judicial Reception at the Duquesne Club, where they will present The Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership & Excellence to Donetta W. Ambrose, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Chief Judge Ambrose received her J.D. cum laude at the Duquesne University School of Law in 1970; and
WHEREAS, prior to her tenure with the U.S. District Court, Chief Judge Ambrose worked as a law clerk for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, an Assistant District Attorney for Westmoreland County, a judge for the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas, and also spent several years engaging in the general practice of law; and
WHEREAS, following her extensive experience in various judicial capacities, Chief Judge Ambrose was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania on November 24, 1993; and
WHEREAS, Chief Judge Ambrose is a member of the Westmoreland County, American, and Women's Bar Associations, the American Judicature Society, the American Inns of Court, and the International and National Associations of Women Judges, a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation, and former Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession; and
WHEREAS, she is the past recipient of countless awards, including the Duquesne University Women's Law Association's Woman of the Year Award, the Duquesne University School of Law's Distinguished Alumni Award, the Women's Bar Association's Susan B. Anthony Award, and the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Ann X. Alpren Award; and
WHEREAS, in addition to her work as a judge, Chief Judge Ambrose is also dedicated to serving her community through a variety of civic, religious, and charitable activities and is a member of the Board of Directors of Magee-Women's Hospital and its Research Institute and Foundation;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council joins with the Amen Corner in honoring Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Donetta W. Ambrose. Your commitment to excellence is an inspiration to the members of this Council and to all the citizens of Allegheny County.
