Proclamation declaring Sunday, October 9, 2005 as "Columbus Commemoration Day" throughout Allegheny County,

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods and the community as a whole; and

 

WHEREAS, the Sons of Columbus of America, Inc., has for 80 years dedicated itself to inspiring the same faith and persistence that sustained Christopher Columbus on his epic voyage of exploration to the New World; and

 

WHEREAS, the Federation Sons of Columbus of America has been in the forefront of efforts to develop a day of National observance in recognition of the accomplishments of Christopher Columbus, and will host its 80th Anniversary Celebration “Saluting our Past, Honoring our Present, Reaching Toward our Future” on October 9, 2005 at Churchill Valley Country Club, highlighted by the reunion of the ten Miss Bella Italias and the recognition of Dorothy Ardolino Restivo, the daughter of the first National President of the Sons of Columbus of America; and

 

WHEREAS, this auspicious occasion will be commemorated this year with a special Mass at the Parish of the Immaculate Conception & St. Joseph in Bloomfield at 11:30 a.m.;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim Sunday, October 9, 2005 as “Columbus Commemoration Day” throughout Allegheny County, and encourage our citizens to mark the significance of this important anniversary which changed the course of the world and civilization, and opened new horizons for mankind.
