Proclamation recognizing the official dedication of Martha's Playground at Mt. Lebanon Park on April 7, 2007 in honor of former Mt. Lebanon resident Martha Dixon Martinez, an FBI agent who was killed in the line of duty.

WHEREAS, Martha's Run, an annual 10K run and 2 mile walk, was established to honor the memory of FBI Special Agent and Mt. Lebanon native Martha Dixon Martinez, who was killed in the line of duty in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Martha's Run is a great community event and a lasting legacy to Martha Dixon Martinez; and
WHEREAS, The Martha Fund Foundation was set up as a non-profit organization whose mission is to fund playgrounds and playground equipment for children. Proceeds from Martha's Run benefit The Martha Fund, which has donated thousands of dollars over the years for playground and playground equipment at schools and parks in Mt. Lebanon, Edgeworth, Beltzhoover and the Holy Family Institute in Emsworth; and
WHEREAS, April 7, 2007 represents an important date for the community of Mt. Lebanon with the official dedication of “Martha's Playground” in Mt. Lebanon Park. Her legacy has allowed for the greatest gift, benefiting the children in our community; and
WHEREAS, Martha Dixon Martinez is a true hero to our great County of Allegheny and is afforded a day in her honor;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim April 7, 2007 as “Martha Dixon Martinez Day” in Allegheny County. This day will officially be recorded as such in the County. The bearer shall have full accord and be recognized as such. Through the dedication of Martha's Playground, this day shall be a lasting memory to an outstanding citizen, a noble cause and to a great community.
