Proclamation declaring August 30, 2005 as "American Legion Baseball Day" in Allegheny County in honor of Post 764's 1972 State Championship team.

WHEREAS, since 1925, The American Legion has sponsored a nationwide youth baseball program; and
WHEREAS, during the past seven decades, millions of young players have enjoyed playing baseball in the American Legion program; and
WHEREAS, the American Legion and their 2.8 million members have raised millions of dollars each year for players to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship, and in the process fosters the development of athletic skill, personal fitness and leadership qualities; and
WHEREAS, American Legion Post 764 is celebrating 50 years of American Legion baseball within its community; and
WHEREAS, this anniversary celebration also honors the Post 764 Legion Baseball team's Pennsylvania State Championship in 1972;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate and honor American Legion Baseball for its continuing tradition of developing both the social conscience and the athletic ability of the youth of the community. This commitment to the young people of Allegheny County is worthy of our highest esteem, and we congratulate American Legion Post 764 on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the start of their outstanding baseball tradition; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby proclaims August 30, 2005 to be “American Legion Baseball Day” in Allegheny County in honor of Post 764's 1972 State Championship team.
