Proclamation honoring the 50th anniversary of the vocal harmony group the Skyliners.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County citizens are privileged to have one of the greatest harmony groups of all-time call our region its home; and
WHEREAS, composed originally of teenagers Jimmy Beaumont, Janet Vogel, Wally Lester, Joe VerScharen and Jackie Taylor, the Skyliners formed in 1958 under the moniker, the Crescents; and
WHEREAS, after the group recorded their greatest hit, “Since I Don't Have You,” they changed their name to the Skyliners, and the single quickly sold 100,000 copies shortly after it was released in December 1958; and
WHEREAS, the Skyliners enjoyed national success throughout their hot career and have been sought to perform nationally in many famous venues as the landmark group of that musical era; and
WHEREAS, the current lineup of Jimmy Beaumont, Donna Groom, Mark Groom, Dick Muse and Nick Pociask continues the group's legacy by playing concerts nationally, which helps preserve one of the greatest eras of rock-n-roll history;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby honors the Skyliners as one of the greatest harmony groups our nation has ever heard and seen. Furthermore, we are lucky you consider our county your home; we hope you continue to build on the Skyliners' already monumental history.
