This Certificate of Achievement is awarded to Miss Marla Tortorice in recognition of her winning several awards for her science project, “The Bearing Capacity of Soil.” Marla, who will be a junior at Serra Catholic High School this fall, won second place at the 2008 Pennsylvania Junior Association of Science competition and second place in the Earth, Space, and Science category of the 2008 Mon Yough Science Fair with her project, which tested the amount of weight that different types of soils can support. Additionally, she won a $20,000 scholarship to Point Park University and the Association of Bridge Construction and Design sponsor award at the 2008 Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair. You have set a high standard of commitment and dedication which the youth of our great County of Allegheny may follow, and which serves as an inspiration to this Council and the citizens of Allegheny County.
