WHEREAS, long and distinguished service throughout one's life deserves the accolades of our citizenry; especially when one devotes so much time to enhancing the quality of life in her community as Ms. Marilyn McKinney has, placing her stamp of character and hard work throughout the community as a public servant and community leader; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn has spent thirty-one years as an educator with the Pittsburgh Public Schools, currently serving as the Program Officer of the Program for Students with Exceptionalities, where her enthusiasm for equal educational opportunities for all students is well known; and

WHEREAS, an alumna of Wayne State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she received her Masters of Education and Supervisory Certification in Special Education, Marilyn continues her involvement in higher education as an adjunct professor of special education at both Chatham College and Point Park University; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn is well known in the Pittsburgh Public School District for demonstrating her enthusiasm, insight, creativity, and innovation in fostering the youth of the City of Pittsburgh in order to maximize outcomes, a commitment that benefits those students for whom she advocates; and

WHEREAS, her dedication to education has been recognized on a larger scale through Marilyn's appointment as a compliance monitor in the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Education, where she has served for over eighteen years; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn also lends her time and talents to serve as a member of numerous boards and organizations that focus on education, students, family and community, and equal rights such as the Kingsley Association of Pittsburgh, the National Association for t...
