Proclamation recognizing the 15th anniversary of the McKeesport Relay for Life.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County communities assist in the fight against cancer by partaking in fundraisers that benefit the efforts of national organizations; and
WHEREAS, the City of McKeesport has hosted the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for the past 15 years, raising over $750,000 to support the mission of the American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, those who have participated in the McKeesport Relay For Life celebrate the lives of those who have battled and survived cancer, remember those who have lost their lives to the disease, and help fight against its deadly effects; and
WHEREAS, the 2009 event in McKeesport will last nearly 24 hours, and teams and individuals will walk and run around a track throughout the day and night to raise funds and awareness; and
WHEREAS, by joining the 3.5 million Americans who participate in this event, which is in its 25th year nationally, Allegheny County residents contribute hope and encouragement to those fighting cancer;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby recognizes the City of McKeesport for hosting the Relay For Life for 15 years. We commend the people of the community and their efforts to raising awareness and funds for cancer research. Your tedious work and dedication is a bright light in the fight against cancer.
