Motion of the Council of Allegheny County recognizing and thanking the public for their participation in the legislative process through discussions of Bill No. 2705-06, the proposed Allegheny County smoking ban, which helped educate and inform Allegheny County Council.

WHEREAS, Bill No. 2705-06, the proposed smoking ban for Allegheny County, has generated a great deal of public comment both in favor of and in opposition to the bill; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Allegheny County Council was fortunate to hear from County residents thereby gaining a better understanding of both sides of this important issue; and

 

WHEREAS, regardless of the outcome of Bill No. 2705-06, this Council is grateful to the community for voicing their opinion and feelings about secondhand smoke and smoke free laws, thereby engaging Council in lively debate;

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS MOVED that this Council recognizes the citizens of Allegheny County for their public participation in consideration of Bill No. 2705-06, the proposed Allegheny County smoking ban.  Their participation throughout the consideration of this bill has added immeasurably to the cause of good government in Allegheny County, and Council wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to everyone who showed their commitment to the community by contacting and communicating with their Council Members.
