Proclamation recognizing Sharpsburg Borough Councilman Larry Stelitano for his efforts in spearheading the redevelopment of the Sharpsburg waterfront area.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with leaders who are committed to making our region a cleaner, more beautiful place to live; and

 

WHEREAS, in recent years, the Sharpsburg waterfront had become a dumping ground for unwanted household appliances and trash; and

 

WHEREAS, Larry Stelitano, a member of Sharpsburg Borough Council and lifelong borough resident, has been spearheading an effort to revamp the waterfront area; and

 

WHEREAS, the development, which spans about 600 feet, includes public boat and kayak launches; and

 

WHEREAS, future plans for the area include a handicapped-accessible fishing pier, lighting, benches, and possibly a gazebo; and

 

WHEREAS, the project was funded with help from the Keystone Paralyzed Veterans of America, Friends of the Riverfront, the Fish and Boat Commission, the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development, and the Pennsylvania State Department of Conservation; and

 

WHEREAS, this development was a true community effort, with trainees from the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center and Duquesne Light assisting with the work, which saved the borough hundreds of thousands of dollars in labor costs;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Mr. Larry Stelitano for his efforts to coordinate the clean-up and development of the Sharpsburg waterfront area.  We are grateful for your dedication to making Allegheny County a safer, more beautiful place to live.
