Proclamation honoring the late Edward Fetcho, a veteran Allegheny County emergency dispatcher who, along with his wife Jane, passed away on February 22, 2008.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services employs many of the area's hardest-working men and women who give their time and effort to protect the residents of Allegheny County in their time of need; and

 

WHEREAS, on February 22, 2008, Allegheny County lost a highly dedicated worker when Edward Fetcho, an Allegheny County 9-1-1 dispatcher, and his wife Jane, a staffer with PNC Bank, lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Fetcho was an Allegheny County employee for 24 years.  He began in 1984, serving in a clerical role for the County Police, and in 1998, when the County began operating a 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, Mr. Fetcho was the first person to go through the training and transition to become a dispatcher; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Fetcho was also a training officer for new dispatchers, as well as a spokesperson and operator for the 9-1-1 Van, which largely increases the public's education and awareness of 9-1-1 services; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the County, Mr. Fetcho, along with his wife Jane, was a loving parent to their daughter Ashley, a senior at Virginia Tech;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council wishes to honor the late Edward Fetcho for devoting more than two decades to saving the lives of countless Allegheny County residents.  His dedication to protecting our citizens was commendable and on behalf of the Allegheny County Department of Emergency Services and all the citizens of Allegheny County, we wish to honor him for all that he has done.
