Proclamation commending Santonio Holmes for his MVP performance in Super Bowl XLIII.

WHEREAS, a superior effort and magnificent hands earned Pittsburgh Steelers' wide receiver, Santonio Holmes, the most valuable player award of Super Bowl XLIII, catapulting him into Super Bowl history and Steelers' football lore; and
WHEREAS, in the famous fourth-quarter drive of the National Football League's forty-third world championship game, Holmes' 40-yard catch-and-run was one of the drive's significant moments, placing the team six yards away from the go-ahead score and the eternal glory of a Super Bowl championship; and
WHEREAS, Holmes' capped the drive with an astounding game-winning touchdown reception in the back corner of the end zone. The image of his toes barely contacting the ground and his outstretched body - fingertips controlling the football - will remain in the memories of football fans for generations; and
WHEREAS, Holmes accounted for 73 of the Steelers' 88 yards on that final drive. With a captivating game performance of nine catches for 131 yards, he joined Hines Ward and Lynn Swann as the third Steelers' wide receiver to don the honor of Super Bowl MVP; and
WHEREAS, the maturation of this young receiver throughout the 2008 NFL playoffs is evident in his work ethic and his determination to rise to the occasion on one of the biggest stages of the sporting world;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this council, on behalf of the citizens of this great county, commends Santonio Holmes' performance in Super Bowl XLIII. Furthermore, his contribution to this championship has helped the organization become one of the most revered professional sports franchises ever. Finally, this council wishes the young man success in all of his life's endeavors.
