This Certificate of Recognition is awarded to the Herron Hill Jr. High School 1957 Championship Swim Team upon the momentous occasion of their 50th Anniversary. In 1956 and 1957, the Herron Hill Jr. High School Swimming Teams became the first all African-American teams to capture back-to-back swimming championships in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. The championship team members are Ronald Curry, Morris S. Fountain, Pomeroyal Fountain, Donald Primus, Melvin Russell, Ronald B. Saunders, Daniel C. Tabb, and Hubert Wilson. The legendary coaches include the Herron Hill Jr. High School coach Edwin Geasa, YMCA coach Walter Crocker, and Otis Johnson, coach at the Ammon Recreation Center. We commend the 1957 Herron Hill Jr. High School Championship Swim Team and join in celebration of the team's 50th Anniversary. This distinguished endeavor and accomplishment is worthy of our County of Champions, earning the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County. Your achievement has conferred honor upon the County to be shared by each of us and, for that, we commend you.
