Proclamation recognizing the Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics of Chatham University for hosting the 4th annual Ready to Run Campaign Training for Women and proclaiming January 31, 2015 as Ready to Run Day in Allegheny County.

WHEREAS, to help address historically low levels of representation of women in Pennsylvania government, The Pennsylvania Center for Women and Politics (PCWP) at Chatham University is hosting its 4th annual Ready to Run Campaign Training for Women on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Chatham University's Shadyside campus; and
WHEREAS, Ready to Run Pennsylvania provides bi-partisan political training to encourage women to run for government leadership positions; The day-long program targets women considering or recently deciding to run for political office, providing training and mentoring by campaign professionals, political women and officeholders; and
WHEREAS, according to PCWP data, at the state and local levels of government women comprise only: 17.8 percent of state legislators, 19 percent of municipal executives, 37.5 percent of county officials, 35 percent of elected school board members and 27 percent of the Commonwealth's more than 1,300 various elected judicial offices; and
WHEREAS, since its inception in 2012, more than 250 women have participated in the Ready to Run program in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Ready to Run Pennsylvania is part of the Ready to Run National Training Network of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby proclaim January 31, 2015 as Ready to Run Day in Allegheny County.
