Proclamation recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Veteran’s Day parade and commending the Federation of War Veterans’ Societies, Inc. for consistently conducting and organizing the parade for the last 100 years.

WHEREAS, on Veterans Day we reflect upon the immense burden so many took upon themselves whenever they decided to wear America’s uniform and the families who stood alongside them. We salute those men and women for their service, and we express our perpetual gratitude; and
WHEREAS, more than 1.2 million Pennsylvanian’s are veterans, comprising 14 percent of the state’s population and a great percentage of those veterans reside in Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, in 1919, the Federation of War Veterans’ Societies, Inc. was formed. Its purpose was to partner annually with Allegheny County to provide a Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, this year, the Federation of War Veterans’ Societies is celebrating its 100th anniversary of organizing and presenting the Veterans Day Parade in Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, the Federation of War Veterans’ Societies is dedicated to educating Allegheny County residents to properly recognize and care for our veterans; through the parade, the group raises awareness of all veterans through Allegheny County and the state; and
WHEREAS, our Nation’s veterans have set an exemplary standard that will delineate the American character for eternity. It is our duty as citizens to preserve these heroic individual’s legacy and we shall never forget those who sacrificed for a safer America;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Allegheny County Council Member Sam DeMarco, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends those brave men and women of our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard who took part in our Nation’s cause of peace and freedom around the world.
