Proclamation honoring the Community Human Services Corporation and the participants of the "Sleep-In for the Homeless".

 

Body

WHEREAS, on October 17, 2008, Community Human Services (CHS) will hold its first “Sleep-In for the Homeless” in Downtown Pittsburgh's City-County Building; and

 

WHEREAS, the event will feature local religious and organizational leaders, local and state politicians, as well as numerous advocates for the homeless; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout the evening, participants will learn about the different faces of homelessness, the issues affecting the homeless, and ways in which ordinary citizens can become involved in helping our area's homeless citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, organizers anticipate raising an astonishing $20,000 in proceeds from this event, which will be used for various existing homeless assistance programs including an emergency shelter, a health care clinic, a rental assistance program, and a street outreach program in which workers give out food and information about services for the homeless; and

 

WHEREAS, by creating this opportunity for an open dialogue about homelessness, CHS will provide our region's citizens with the opportunity to come together in order to make Allegheny County a better place to live;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends the organizers and participants of the “Sleep-In for the Homeless.”  Your commitment to raising awareness about and funding for the homeless men, women, and children of our region is an inspiration to the members of this Council and to all the residents of Allegheny County.
