Proclamation congratulating the 5th Annual Celebrate Coalitions Awardees and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh upon the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, since 1965, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh has matched more than 19,000 children with responsible, caring adult mentors; and
WHEREAS, through these strong and enduring one-to-one relationships, a child's basic developmental needs are met and supported with role modeling, guidance, and friendship; and
WHEREAS, studies have shown that children enrolled as Little Brothers and Sisters are more confident in their learning abilities, develop a more positive attitude towards school, and are better able to avoid conflicts and make positive choices; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, January 22, 2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh will celebrate its 50th Anniversary and recognize its Celebrate Coalitions winners at the 5th Annual Celebrate Coalitions Award Event at AlphaLab Gear in East Liberty; and
WHEREAS, the following volunteers and partners will be honored at the event for their tremendous efforts in 2014:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council does hereby commend Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh for its 50 years of dedication to finding role models and guidance to children in need, and we congratulate the Celebrate Coalitions winners.
