Proclamation recognizing the East Deer Police Department for coordinating a gift card drive to collect needed funds for a local family after a fire destroyed their home during the 2007 Holiday season.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is home to law enforcement officials of great distinction who pledge to serve and protect our citizens; and

 

WHEREAS, following a local house fire in December 2007, the members of the East Deer Police Department proved that they were willing to go above and beyond the call of duty; and

 

WHEREAS, led by Chief John Manchini, the East Deer Police Department organized a gift card drive to collect donations that could be used by the affected family for food, clothing, and housing supplies; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Police Department was met with an overwhelming amount of generosity, with donations coming from individuals and businesses across East Deer Township, as well as from McCandless and Hampton Townships; and

 

WHEREAS, as a result of their efforts, over $1700 in gift cards, clothing, and toys was donated to the family, providing them with the tools needed to rebuild their lives; and

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize the East Deer Police Department for their efforts in facilitating a gift card drive that not only benefited a local family during the holidays, but demonstrated the true meaning of giving during the holiday season.  Your actions are an inspiration to the Members of this Council, and to all of the citizens of Allegheny County.
