Proclamation recognizing the grand opening of the new William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills.

WHEREAS, the Penn Hills Library has been proudly serving patrons for the past 35 years; and
WHEREAS, the Library collection has grown from 8,061 catalogued items in 1968 to over 116,000 items today; and
WHEREAS, the Library has moved out of its old home at 240 Astor Street, and is now in the process of moving to a new facility named the William E. Anderson Library of Penn Hills at 1037 Stotler Road; and
WHEREAS, the new, environmentally-friendly, state-of-the-art facility has been designed by noted architect Mark McCormick and built at a total cost of 6.2 million dollars, funded through a number of generous contributors, most notably Mr. Anderson, who has also donated the 6 acres of land on which the new facility has been built;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Allegheny County Council joins with the William E. Anderson Library in celebrating this occasion. A long-established community service institution will be undergoing a momentous change for the better, brought about by the actions of hundreds of dedicated individuals who have joined together for the public good. Together, they have devoted time, money, and great personal effort to guaranteeing that open and free access to information is available to all Penn Hills area residents. Their remarkable achievement is a testament to the spirit of our great County of Allegheny.
