Proclamation celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Tarentum Summit Hose Company, Station 13 Volunteer Fire Department on May 6, 2006 and commending the department for their selfless efforts and heroic deeds.

WHEREAS, the Borough of Tarentum, Allegheny County has three Volunteer Fire Departments, including the Highland Hose Company, Eureka Hose Company and the Summit Hose Company, that service a community of approximately 4,900 residents, providing citizens with reliable fire protection and other services; and
WHEREAS, protecting Tarentum residents since 1906, the Borough's first chartered fire department, the Summit Hose Company, Station 13, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on May 6, 2006; and
WHEREAS, the Summit Hose Company's station is located at 321 West 7th Avenue, Tarentum, PA 15084, providing emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since its inception, Summit firefighters have provided the Borough with a strong volunteer corps, with a current volunteer base of approximately twenty active firefighters willing to respond at a moments notice to handle the needs of their community; and
WHEREAS, the station is equipped with one Fire Engine and two Squad cars. All firefighters are trained in-house and must attend the fundamentals of fire fighting at the Allegheny County Fire Academy located in North Park; and
WHEREAS, the Summit Hose Company is one of Tarentum's greatest community assets;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council hereby congratulates the Borough of Tarentum's Summit Hose Company, Station 13 upon the occasion of their 100th Anniversary Celebration and commends the department for its courage and dedication to safety and rescue. This Council recognizes their selfless efforts and heroic deeds, which have earned the esteem of the citizens of Allegheny County.
