Proclamation honoring Allegheny County Police Officer William Gorman for saving the life of a 9 month old infant at the Pittsburgh International Airport on April 3, 2015.

WHEREAS, on April 3, 2015, Allegheny County Police Officer William Gorman observed a parked vehicle along the exit road of the Pittsburgh International Airport; and
WHEREAS, upon approaching the vehicle, Officer Gorman was confronted with a 9 month old infant who was choking on food and barely responsive; and
WHEREAS, Officer Gorman requested emergency medical assistance and took immediate action by securing the infant, re-positioning her in his arm to initiate three quick thrusts to her upper back which successfully opened her airway allowing her to breathe again; and
WHEREAS, we salute Officer Gorman for his quick response, decisive actions and application of training and experience which prevented a potentially tragic event; and
WHEREAS, the infant is well today because of the heroic actions of Officer Gorman;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby honor Allegheny County Police Officer William Gorman for his lifesaving act, and we bestow our highest commendation for his commitment to the safety and well-being of visitors and residents of Allegheny County. Officer Gorman's actions bring great credit to himself, the Allegheny County Police Department and Allegheny County.
