Proclamation recognizing the Verona Garden Club for being named Verona's 2008 Citizens of the Year by The Advance Leader.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Verona Garden Club recently received the distinction of being named Verona's 2008 Citizens of the Year by The Advance Leader; and

 

WHEREAS, the Garden Club was founded in the spring of  2007 by Mariann and Bob Brayer and currently has 20 members, some of whom are from the Verona Community Action Group and the Verona Borough Council, and others who are local business owners and residents; and

 

WHEREAS, the members are Bob and Mariann Brayer, Bessy Bennellick, Janie Cohane, Sharon Conte, Sandy Drabicki-Bell, Gina Dudczak, Heather Fern, Denise Gemellas, LeaAnn Grill, Earl Hendricks, Katrina Kitty, Doreen McDade, Jessica Ranck, Dave Ricupero, Sonja Smith, Anita Tebeau, Patti Tumminello, Rhoda Worf, and Mary Ann Yingling; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Garden Club formed six teams, each of which is in charge of maintaining a certain section of the borough; and

 

                     WHEREAS, last year, the members planted and maintained 50 trees and 1,200 flowers throughout Verona; and

 

                     WHEREAS, this year, the Garden Club plans to highlight its new displays with a garden walk scheduled for June 21st, which will offer residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the beauty that Verona has to offer; and

                     

                     WHEREAS, in addition to their work with the Garden Club, members have also discussed creating a historical society and implementing projects such as a historical display at the police department and making plaques for the borough's oldest houses;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize the Verona Garden Club for being named Verona's 2008 Citizens of the Year.  Your commitment to making your hometown a beautiful place to live is an inspiration to the members of this Council, and to all the citizens of Allegheny County.
