Proclamation congratulating the Bon-Ami Temple No. 49 of the Daughters of Elks 2014 award winners.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is blessed with individuals and organizations dedicated to improving our quality of life through many worthy endeavors, especially the Improved Benevolent, Protective Order of Elks of the World, known as Elkdom; when founded in 1898, the fraternal group added a Women's Auxiliary to help with its many worthwhile activities in 1902; and
WHEREAS, on March 29, 2014, the Bon-Ami Temple No. 49 of the Daughters of Elks, will honor outstanding members for their accomplishments and service to Elkdom and their fellow citizens; and
WHEREAS, the selfless and spirited members chosen for the 2014 awards include Mr. Elk, Brother Frederick (Red) Richardson, Exalted Ruler of Edgar A. Still Lodge #207, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and Ms. Elk, Daughter Rose M. Blackwell, Past Presiding Daughter Ruler of Ruth Temple #116, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for their outstanding service to Elkdom; and
WHEREAS, the organization will also recognize Carmen G. Bell, Founder/CEO of Pittsburgh Family Development, Inc. with the Entrepreneur Award; The Honorable Kimberly M. Hoots, District Judge, Wilkinsburg Borough with the Civic Service Award; and Richard G. Portis, Founder/CEO of XXI-C Industries, LLC with the Humanitarian Award;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby commend the Daughter Ruler and all members of Bon-Ami Temple No. 49, Daughters of Elks, I.B.P.O.E. of W. for their compassion and generous charity work in one of America's most livable communities, and we congratulate the 2014 Awardees for their zeal and fervor toward their respective fields of endeavor, which serves as an inspiration to us all.
