Proclamation recognizing the Bethel Park China Delegation Program as they embark on their 2008 program.

WHEREAS, in 1995, Carol Carr, a retired Bethel Park School District teacher, traveled to China with Chinese national Arthur Wong, owner of East/West Connections in Columbus, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, during her stay, Ms. Carr had the opportunity to visit Xing Zhi High School of the Bao Shan School District, located near Shanghai, where she discovered a wealth of educational and cultural opportunities that could benefit the students of the Bethel Park School District; and
WHEREAS, later that year, Ms. Carr returned to China with a delegation of six Bethel Park teachers, who spent 10 days learning about Chinese culture and education; and
WHEREAS, since the initial visit in 1995, Bethel Park School District and Bao Shan School District teachers, students, and administrators have made several visits as part of an exchange program; and
WHEREAS, 26 delegates from the Bao Shan School District will arrive in Pittsburgh on Sunday, January 27th. During their weeklong visit, they will visit local museums, television stations, and landmarks and will have the opportunity to experience American education and culture first-hand;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize the Bethel Park School District as it prepares to welcome teachers, students, and administrators from the Bao Shan School District for its 2008 China Delegation Program. On behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, we thank you for your dedication to enriching the cultural and educational opportunities of our youth.
