Proclamation congratulating Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital for being recognized as two of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care.

WHEREAS, Allegheny County is home to world-class healthcare institutions who consistently demonstrate an unparalleled commitment to excellence; and
WHEREAS, Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital were recently named two of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thompson Reuters, one of the country's leading analysts of healthcare performance; and
WHEREAS, Thompson Reuters examined the performance of 970 hospitals across the United States based on clinical outcomes for patients diagnosed with heart failure and heart attacks and for those who received coronary bypass surgery and angioplasties; and
WHEREAS, the 100 hospitals honored boast impressive statistics, performing 63 percent more bypass surgeries at a 26 percent lower mortality rate than their peer institutions, and likewise performing 42 percent more angioplasties; and
WHEREAS, with their state-of-the-art technology, clinical expertise, and dedicate to patient safety and care, Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital have made great strides in the increasingly competitive field of cardiovascular care ; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council hereby commends Allegheny General Hospital and The Western Pennsylvania Hospital for their efforts to improve the quality of care for patients suffering from cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, we congratulate you for earning the distinguished honor of being recognized as two of our nation's Top 100 Hospitals for cardiovascular care.
