Proclamation recognizing Rebecca Sciullo for being named Oakmont's 2008 Citizen of the Year.

WHEREAS, local business owner Rebecca Sciullo recently received the distinction of being named Oakmont's 2008 Citizen of the Year by The Advance Leader; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Sciullo, the owner of Oakmont Floral on Allegheny River Boulevard, has been instrumental in the planning and development of the Oakmont in Bloom Campaign; and
WHEREAS, the idea for the campaign was sparked by the positive responses received by viewers of the flowering displays in the courtyard outside of Ms. Sciullo's shop, which has been used for wedding photographs, photo shoots for local magazines, and for a Hallmark commercial; and
WHEREAS, with a group of over 100 volunteers, Ms. Sciullo sketched out a five-year plan for similarly transforming Oakmont's business district; and
WHEREAS, plans for the first year include displays of annual flowers in baskets and urns throughout the area, including baskets hanging from the clock tower on Allegheny River Boulevard and at the train station on Allegheny Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Sciullo has also met with the Oakmont Shade Tree Commission to discuss improvements that can be made to the trees in town and along with the Oakmont in Bloom volunteers, plans to select three to five trees on the boulevard to replace this year;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, Allegheny County Council wishes to recognize the Ms. Rebecca Sciullo for being named Oakmont's 2008 Citizen of the Year. Your hard work with the Oakmont in Bloom campaign is commendable. We thank you for all that you and your volunteers have accomplished to date and wish you continued success as you make Oakmont a more beautiful place to live.
