Proclamation recognizing the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, which recently celebrated its 125th anniversary.

 

 

Body

WHEREAS, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Carnegie, Pennsylvania was founded in 1882; and

 

                     WHEREAS, St. John's has nearly  365 confirmed members and 559 baptized members, some of whom come from as far as Burgesttown, Oakdale, and Moon to attend weekend services; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission at St. John's has consistently been to model a caring, loving, and accepting community through worship, music, Christian education, youth activities, women-centered activities, and community service; and

 

                     WHEREAS, St. John's has consistently aided the community through various service projects, most notably acting as a safe haven for those displaced by flooding in the midst of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and assisting businesses and residents in cleaning up the aftermath of the storm; and

 

                     WHEREAS, with the help of Reverend Bruce Nordeen, St. John's collaborated with other area churches to form a community outreach program to help those affected by disasters such as flooding or house fires;

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Allegheny County Council congratulates the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church on its 125th anniversary.  We thank you for your dedication to serving the Carnegie community through your worship and wish you many more years of success.
