Proclamation commending the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses' Club for holding a memorial service at the South Park War Nurses' Memorial on November 11, 2014.

WHEREAS, more than 59,000 American nurses served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II; and
WHEREAS, to honor and thank military nurses, on August 28, 1934, a nurses memorial was dedicated along Corrigan Drive in South Park; and
WHEREAS, the monument reads, "A tribute of the people of Allegheny County to the nurses who served in the World War;" and
WHEREAS, every year the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club holds a Veterans Day memorial service at the South Park monument to honor war nurses and all veterans;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Allegheny County Council, on behalf of the citizens of Allegheny County, hereby commends the Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club for commemorating United States military nurses and for raising awareness of their crucial role in World War I and subsequent wars.
