Proclamation congratulating Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania upon the momentous occasion of its 75th anniversary.

          WHEREAS, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania's more than 3,300 volunteers, including business leaders, parents, college students and teachers, go into primary and secondary school classrooms to teach workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy, the three pillars of Junior Achievement; and
 
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania serves more than 72,000 students in 167 school districts in the region; Nearly 28,000 of these students who participate in a Junior Achievement program reside in Allegheny County; and
 
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs, which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace; and
 
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement empowers young people to own their economic success; and
 
WHEREAS, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Junior Achievement U.S.A. was founded in 1919 and brought to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the fall of 1939 by A.W. Robertson, Chairman of Westinghouse, as well as by the corporate support of Pittsburgh-based companies Westinghouse, U.S. Steel, Koppers and Gulf Oil; and
 
WHEREAS, Junior Achievement commemorates 2014 as the 75th anniversary of its founding in Pittsburgh as the very first Junior Achievement branch in the country;
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby congratulate Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania upon the occasion of its 75th Anniversary, and we recognize Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania for its many contributions to the economic vitality of Allegheny County.
