         WHEREAS, a unique feature of Chinese civilization is that its history has been documented, uninterrupted and passed down for 5,000 years, at times in vivid detail. This provides Shen Yun Performing Arts with a vast source of creative material, making it possible to revive this ancient culture in contemporary performing arts; and
      WHEREAS, for thousands of years Chinese artists believed that to create art worthy of the heavens, there must first be inner purity. Shen Yun's artists follow in this noble tradition, and artists and theatergoers around the world describe Shen Yun as "breathtaking, dazzling, elegant and inspiring;" and
      WHEREAS, described as a journey into the long-lost culture of China, the legends and heritage of ancient China are depicted through the graceful movements of dancers floating across the stage in concert with music from a live orchestra, leaving the audience captivated by the backdrops of heavenly palaces and the dusty plateaus of the Middle Kingdom; and
      WHEREAS, there are three Shen Yun Performing Arts touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts is the first company to present classical Chinese dance to contemporary audiences on such a large scale;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council does hereby welcome Shen Yun Performing Arts to Allegheny County and Pittsburgh's Benedum Center for the Performing Arts on February 19-20, 2014, and we congratulate the cast and crew for their brilliant performances and depiction of ancient China.
