WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia, Pittsburgh's public television station, will add to its distinguished original productions, The War That Made America, which premieres on January 18 and 25, 2006 from 9 to 11 p.m. , a four-hour dramatic documentary bringing to life the French and Indian War; and
WHEREAS, the film was shot on location in Southwestern Pennsylvania, highlighting regional history which had a tremendous impact on the development of our nation; the film is authentic to 18th Century reality and cast only Native Americans to play the parts of their 18th century tribal ancestors; and
WHEREAS, the series significantly reframes how early American history is understood and is the first PBS documentary to introduce television viewers to the early military career of George Washington, explaining how this war set the American colonies and George Washington on a completely unexpected path to Revolution; and
WHEREAS, narrated and hosted by Graham Greene, an Academy-Award nominee and an Oneida Indian whose ancestors fought in this war, The War That Made America was written, produced and directed by Eric Stange and Ben Loeterman, filmmakers which expertly combined the historical accuracy of a documentary with the techniques and narrative power of feature film; and
WHEREAS, this comprehensive multimedia project includes an extensive web site, a companion book written by historian Fred Anderson and a soundtrack produced, orchestrated and arranged by Brian Keane, with a significant curriculum component provided by French and Indian War 250, Inc., a group leading the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the war; and
