Ms. Matilda Belan
This Certificate of Recognition is awarded to you upon the momentous occasion of your 100th Birthday Celebration. Ms. Belan was born on October 24, 1907 in Yugoslavia and arrived in the United States on November 1, 1920 with her older sister. At the age of 17, she married John Belan, a gentleman from her village in Yugoslavia, and they had two children, Frank and Rose. The family grew up in the City of Duquesne where she helped the indigent by cooking, cleaning and doing laundry for them, while taking care of her own family. During WWII, she also worked in the Duquesne Mill. In 1954, Mr. and Mrs. Belan built a home in West Mifflin, where she still lives. This home has housed nearly all of her family at one time or another. Ms. Belan remains active and we join with family and friends in celebrating her 100th birthday, serving as an inspiration to the residents of Allegheny County and to all.
