Proclamation recognizing and congratulating the Glassport Athletic Association upon the occasion of their 100th Anniversary Celebration.

WHEREAS, the Borough of Glassport, County of Allegheny, was established in August of 1902. The borough is 1.63 square miles, located 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and home to many industries, businesses, service agencies and sports groups including, the Glassport Athletic Association (GAA); and
WHEREAS, children, family members, volunteers, coaches and Glassport Athletic Association officials gathered on August 5, 2006 for a picnic at the Ninth Street Recreational Park to celebrate the achievements of the GAA and to recognize its importance in the community upon its 100th Anniversary Celebration; and
WHEREAS, Glassport has always been and remains a civic-minded community with individuals that pledge to devote their time, their energies, and their resources to programs of community service; and
WHEREAS, the Glassport Athletic Association is a non-profit organization which provides a safe and fun summer sports program for children ages five to fifteen, including boy's baseball and girl's softball. The Association takes pride in providing a family-oriented learning atmosphere, growing its membership to seventy-six youth, where inclusiveness and diversity are valued;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Allegheny County Council hereby recognizes and joins in celebrating with the Borough of Glassport the 100th Anniversary of the Glassport Athletic Association. We bestow our sincerest gratitude to the Association for supporting and guiding our future generation by instilling the spirit of teamwork, which is worthy of our County of Champions.
